City of Knowledge Earns Second AP Computer Science Principles Distinction

CKS is Recognized for Closing the Gender Gap in AP Computer Science Principles

For the second consecutive year since the award was implemented, City of Knowledge has received the College Board’s AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award. Out of 20,000 institutions across the Unites States offering AP courses, only 818 total achieved this important result.

This recognition is given to schools that attained a strong representation of female students in either AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP), AP Computer Science A (AP CSA), or both of these courses during the 2018-2019 school year. Specifically, the College Board is honoring schools that reached 50 percent or higher female representation in one or both AP computer science courses. City of Knowledge is included among the list of awardees in the AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) category.

Providing female students with access to computer science courses is necessary to ensuring gender parity in high-paying technology jobs and to drive innovation, creativity, and competition. A 2014 Google study found that women are more likely to pursue computer science if they are given the opportunity to explore it in high school.
