In 2019, City of Knowledge celebrated its 25th year.
This means we have been educating, nurturing, and empowering the next generation… for a whole generation!
Here are just a few of the things we have accomplished in that time…
On an academic level:
We have celebrated 20 high school graduating classes, and over 260 high school graduates.
In our 20 years of high school graduations, we have maintained a 100% college matriculation rate. That’s right, all of our high school graduates have gone to college.
Our high school graduates consistently get accepted into the nation’s best colleges and universities. They are regularly accepted into UCLA, UC Berkeley and all the other UCs, USC, and many other exceptional local schools. They have also been accepted into schools such as Pomona College, Stanford, and Yale.
We have incorporated a wide variety of Advanced Placement classes into our high school curriculum, with a strong focus on equity and accessibility. In the last few years, we have added AP Capstone, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP Studio Art to our course offerings. The College Board awarded us the AP Computer Science Principles Female Diversity award in 2018—a merit awarded to only 490 out of 18,000 schools. In 2018, we became an official AP Capstone Diploma school—a program offered by only over 2,000 secondary schools globally.
Most recently, we have doubled our number of AP scholars (students who pass 3 or more AP exams).
On an elementary school level, we have incorporated STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art & math) camp into the daily curriculum, engaging students in hands-on activities that increase their understanding of and interest in STEAM subjects.
We have subsidized over $10 million dollars in student tuition over the 25 years for families who cannot afford to pay it, consistent with our philosophy that no student should be denied a good education in an Islamic environment based on their family’s inability to pay.
And so much more.
On a spiritual level…
Our students receive daily classes in Qur’an, Arabic and Ethics/Islamic Studies. They learn the fundamentals of faith, God consciousness and akhlaq beginning in Pre-School, and develop that growth and understanding through high school.
Our students perform daily dhuhr and asr prayers at school.
Our students perform a variety of plays and other productions based on religious events to help deepen their understanding of and love for their faith. For example, the annual Karbala play, Hajj simulation, Mubahala play, and many other engaging productions (we welcome you to visit for them!).
On a community level…
Our graduating seniors have collectively completed over 26,000 hours of community service for local community organizations.
Our students engage in regular community service activities including homeless feedings, community beautification, and more.
Our students engage with the local interfaith community on a variety of events, including conferences, interfaith walks and iftars, and much more.
Our students and graduates are strong contributing members of their local masjids and centers throughout Southern California.
But we are just getting started!
Over the years, we have relied on the community’s donations for so much—subsidizing tuition for needy families, campus remodeling and upgrades, new computers and technology, a new playground and track, science lab upgrades, prayer hall upgrades, air conditioning, building repairs, bathroom remodeling, a security system and cameras, flooring, library upgrades, and so much more.
We could not do any of this without you!
And there is still so much more work to be done. On this 25th year, we humbly ask you to consider donating to the school to continue to further our mission and our goals. Our costs are extremely high, and the amount that comes in in tuition does not nearly cover it.
You can make a one-time donation, or monthly recurring donations to provide continuous support.
