Quran. Sura 25, Aya 63.
Underlying Principles
- Right and Wrong are clearly defined in the Quran and all students are expected to know the Quranic definition.
- Attendance at City of Knowledge requires a sincere intent to behave in accordance with the Quranic definition of Right.
- The Honor Code assumes a responsibility of the individual to encourage honorable behavior of others with in the school.
- The City of Knowledge Honor Society is the student agency charged with leading the school in assuring compliance with the Honor Code.
- The key principles of the Honor Code are reflected in the schools rules and regulations.
Living the Honor Code: The Student Pledge
Grades 6-12 students are expected to learn and observe the school’s honor code. Each student will be expected to sign a promise to live by the code. Minor infractions of the school rules will initially be dealt with by the period teacher, unless the situation is repetitive, serious, or lacks parental support, in which case an Advisor or Administrator will intervene.
We the students of City of Knowledge affirm that:
We will conduct ourselves with the highest moral and ethical values as demonstrated in the Quran, Hadith and the life example of our Prophet (saw) and Ahlul Bayt (as).
- We will tell the truth, representing ourselves honestly in word and deed to each other
- We will honor our own and each other’s word.
- We will respect each other’s person and property.
- We will accept our responsibility not only for our actions, but also for what other members of the school may do in our presence.
The Honor Society consists of a very select number of students who have exemplified the honor code and two experienced teachers who act as advisors. It is the responsibility of the Honor Society Students to be role models in academic and behavior for other students. The Honor Society students in consultation with the Advisors will coach other students to understand and live the honor code. Honor Society students who use their position to intimidate, undermine, or inappropriately deal with other students will loose their position in the Honor Society.
Honor Society Meetings will be held to guide and help students who repeatedly violate school rules or cause harm to the school property or other students. The office decides on whom to refer to the Honor Society for help. The Honor Society through several meetings with the student may recommend different disciplinary actions. The usual disciplinary response can include, but is not limited to; counseling, detention, community service, trash pick up, loss of privileges e.g. leadership positions, field trips or parties, the requirement that a written or verbal apology be given or that some other restitution be made. The office will issue the final disciplinary order. (The aim is to have the student body look at the Honor Society as people who are there to help their fellow brothers and sisters and not ones who give them orders of discipline which create enemies)
