California may be in risk of a massive storm that could flood a quater of the state. The US Geological Survey encouraged  California’s emergency management and disaster management officials to add a possible “super storm” in their preparations in the same category as a major earthquake.

Over one hundred scientist gathered and built a model that showed a storm that could last up to fortry days. The potential strenghth of this storm scenario is four or five times the amount of damage that could be done by a massive earthquake. Geological Survey scientist, Lucy Jones, said: “We think this event happens once every 100 or 200 years or so, which puts it in the same category as our big San Andreas earthquakes.” This storm could cause 300 to 400 billion dollars in damage.

Scientists believe this storm will be occuring soon due to the rising tempertures in the atmosphere. According to the Associated Press, the storm would be just like an “atmospheric river”  that would move water at the same rate as “50 Mississippis discharging water into the Gulf of Mexico.”
